Cynical exploitation of the war: A Tel Aviv resident presented himself as an evacuee from the south and fraudulently received an apartment in Tel Aviv, from which he stole property and caused extensive damage.

Yesterday (Sunday), a complaint was received at the Sharat station in the Ayalon region about a suspect who was allegedly evacuated from the south, who lived for three months in the complainant's apartment, as part of her desire to help the evacuees of the south following the war, and at the end stole property from her and caused damage to the apartment. At the beginning of the war, the complainant, a resident of Tel Aviv who was abroad, saw the publication of an association looking for a housing solution for evacuees from the south. In agreement with the association, she gave her apartment in order to help the evacuees from the south in time of war.

This week, after she returned home and the suspect vacated the apartment after living there for about three months, she discovered extensive damage, including an antique piece of furniture that had been partially burned, and property estimated at NIS 10,000 had been stolen from the apartment, such as electrical appliances, collectibles from Africa and more. As soon as the complaint was filed, investigators from the Sharat police station opened an investigation, located the suspect and brought him to the station for interrogation.

The investigation revealed that he was a 38-year-old Tel Aviv resident who posed as an evacuee from the south and on that basis lived in the complainant's apartment for 3 months fraudulently, an apartment that was supposed to help the evacuees who were left homeless. At the end of the interrogation, the suspect was released under restrictive conditions to house arrest. Station investigators will return the suspected stolen property to the complainant today and continue the investigation until the suspect is brought to justice.
