Roi Avraham Maimon, a 24-year-old soldier in the Yahalam Combat Engineering unit, was killed yesterday (Monday) in the truck explosion in the central Gaza Strip. Roy was a paramedic who volunteered for years to save lives, loved animals and maintained a vegan diet. He is survived by his parents, Ariella and Yair, and brothers Netta, Tamar, Ora and Yoel.

Roy's family immigrated to Israel from France. His father Yair is a researcher and expert in alternative medicine. His grandfather was a community rabbi in France and his great-grandfather was the rabbi of the Geulim neighborhood in the early days of Afula.

"The residents of Afula share in the heavy mourning of the Maimon family with the passing of their son, Roi." He was eulogized by Afula's mayor, Av Elkabetz. "The beloved Maimon family is a symbol for us all. A month ago I met with my father Yair and he told me about his family's love for the Land of Israel and the State of Israel and about his dream of bringing more Jews from France to Afula.

"The Maimon family fulfilled the mitzvah of settling the Land of Israel with Zionism and endless sacrifice. We will all embrace the family. Parents Ariella and Yair and brothers Netta, Tamar, Ora and Yoel. The best of our daughters and sons have fallen since the outbreak of the war. We are very sad. I write and cry, cry and write." Avi Elkabetz added.
