The explosion disaster in the al-Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip claimed the lives of at least six IDF soldiers, occurred a few minutes after I visited the site of the explosion. At this stage, it is unclear whether it was an accident or the explosion of an enemy IED that led to the explosion of an emulsion truck, a powerful explosive, but the incident reverberated.

During a press tour of the Gaza Strip, together with reporters from other media outlets, we were exposed to a point where the Hamas terrorist organization had established an underground infrastructure for manufacturing explosives used for rockets and missiles. A tunnel shaft used by Hamas commanders to access the facility was found at the scene. Alongside the fighters at the site, engineering teams were in the midst of preparations to destroy the entire facility.
At another facility, less than a kilometer further south on Salah a-Din Road, in the area of al-Mughezi refugee camp, Golani Brigade forces presented us with an industrial compound for the manufacture of rockets, IEDs and mortar shells. At the exit from the compound, a few seconds before entering the CIOs that will take us out of the Gaza Strip, a huge explosion occurred, leaving behind a huge column of dust near us.
From smiling to worrying
It was assumed that this was the destruction of the explosives manufacturing facility, as the fighters said in the place that would happen. But the smiles resulting from the destruction of terrorist infrastructure quickly changed to worried faces when the CIO radio heard voices reporting a serious incident in the nearby sector. The understanding that the disaster occurred at the point where we were a few minutes ago was received only after leaving the Gaza Strip, when the large Yas'our helicopter flew at low altitude to evacuate the wounded.
The entire incident reveals the great price paid by IDF fighters in the difficult and Sisyphean struggle, meter by meter, against the enormous death infrastructure created by the Hamas terrorist organization in the most sensitive places in Gaza, such as the main humanitarian traffic axis in the Gaza Strip. The determination to keep fighting, despite the heavy price I encountered in the Gaza Strip, shows that the army is willing to continue paying the price in order to topple Hamas' reign of terror and restore security to Israel.
