Many residents of the ultra-Orthodox city of Modi'in Illit complain of puzzling and incessant excavation noises of unknown origin.
In light of the events of October 7, and the many complaints from residents of the lowlands about frantic excavations heard beneath the surface, residents of Modi'in Illit are now also joining the complainants and demanding a response.

According to the residents, in recent months, and even more so since the beginning of the war, excavation noises and explosions have been heard again and again even during quiet times when there are no sirens throughout the country. The Shomrim organization in the city reported unusual noises to law enforcement officials and was asked to report any unusual noise to the police. But according to the residents, they are not receiving a response, and it seems that as of now, nothing has been done about it.
"I sent a request in groups that anyone who hears the noise of excavations send me an update." says Ayelet Zadok, a resident of Modi'in Illit. "I received many videos documenting the sounds of digging throughout the day and night. It's inconceivable that a city of about 100,<> people doesn't get a response."
An IDF spokesperson said in response: "The IDF takes seriously and attentively to the residents' reports. The security forces searched the area and conducted additional examinations, which have not yielded findings at this stage. The matter is being monitored and examined ongoing."
