A preliminary investigation into the incident that killed the six engineers in al-Bureij yesterday indicates that the explosion occurred while the area was ready to destroy the tunnel route. Most of the forces left the area, and those who remained were the engineers who prepared the area for the explosion itself.
At this point, one of the tanks in the area identified a threat, improved its position so as not to endanger the forces, and fired at the target after receiving permission to do so. During the second firing of the tank, the shell most likely hit the pillar, which caused the thundering fuse of the sabotage system to operate, resulting in an explosion. The unplanned explosion occurred about half an hour ahead of schedule, in the final stages of preparing the area. The IDF explains that additional examinations are currently being conducted by professionals to understand the incident, and it is still being investigated.
