In recent weeks there has been a dramatic increase in the number of terrorist attacks or attempted attacks carried out in Judea and Samaria. While the fighting in Gaza continues and coinciding with the assassination of Salah al-Arouri last week in Lebanon, the number of warnings in Judea and Samaria continues to climb.

The IDF focuses on the refugee camps in northern Samaria, based on the perception that this is the Achilles' heel and fortified cities of refuge that have developed there over the past few years, while at the same time keeping an eye on what is happening in the rest of Judea and Samaria.

One of the most significant challenges is curbing the terrorism that has developed in recent weeks in the Judea governorate, considered a Hamas stronghold, far more extreme and ideological than northern Samaria. The biggest challenge is preventing a third intifada by any measure in Judea and Samaria, even though residents say this has been the reality in the region for the past year and a half. While most Palestinians are not active participants in terrorism, support for terrorism is unequivocal.

The heads of the local authorities, for their part, demand not to ignore the terror emanating from Judea and Samaria, and to act with full force against it now. Prime Minister Israel Gantz said at the scene of this week's attack near the British police junction that, "We have no other option, the IDF must go deep into the towns and villages, dry up the terror infrastructure there, sit there as long as necessary and terrorize anyone who thinks of organizing and harming the State of Israel, as well as anyone who supports it.

"In order for innocent civilians and families not to pay with their lives, and so that a third front does not open in the center of the State of Israel, the political echelon and the army must take effective action and step up in the fight against terrorism and its surroundings here," Gantz said.
