If there's one thing cats love more than sleeping on your laptop's keyboard, it's climbing on furniture and dropping decorations when you're not home. Here's how to prevent them from doing this whenever you're not around

Cats are the cutest animals in the world – there's no argument about that. At least among the people who choose to raise them, and for whom this article is intended. The only problem with cats is that they tend to be a bit destructive to their environment – especially when the owner isn't around to give them personal attention. They climb on furniture, push potted plants and souvenirs to smash on the floor, or just decide to check how many feathers are in your duvet. We've used Forefront to come up with a list of ways to keep your cat busy when you're at work, so they don't demolish your home until you get back:

First, before you go out, try to spend 5-10 minutes playing with toys like feathers, balls or laser pointers. This helps them burn energy, so that after you walk they prefer to rest.

It's a good idea to scatter boxes and bags around the house, which cats like to try to squeeze into, hide in, or examine from every possible direction (and yes, eventually destroy them).

You can leave a TV or computer on on one of the dozens of channels designed specifically for cats, providing visual and audio stimuli.

Cats enjoy hunting and foraging. Feeding stations that require them to work to get their food connect to these natural behaviors and provide mental stimulation and, ultimately, long, good and relaxing. You can buy these stations or create them from everyday items – such as placing the food in a carton of eggs that your cat will have to try to open.

"Cat trees", which provide scratching stations and shelves of different heights that cats can climb and sit, scratch and play on, provide them with plenty of activity. Alternatively, you should put some thought into arranging the furniture in your home to provide your cat with a kind of cascading climbing route.

Robotic toys in various forms, such as mice and balls, can keep your cat busy for hours, and some also include a remote connection via an app so you can watch your cat, make sure it's not bored and provide stimulation if it's moved to break pictures.

Some cats even enjoy short walks outside on a leash – just like dogs. However, it is slightly less common than reactions to the other stimuli that we have mentioned.

The key is providing a variety of employment options to keep you interested and avoid boredom. With the right stimulation, cats can entertain themselves with joy while their owner is not at home even without destroying the house.
