House and Senate leaders have reached an agreement on a short-term spending budget, which would extend government funding through March, three sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.
The move should give lawmakers more time to craft longer-term spending bills, following agreement reached last weekend to set the overall level of spending for fiscal year 2024 at $1.59 trillion.
House Speaker Mike Johnson will meet with his Republican colleagues on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET to discuss negotiations on the plan. Several Conservatives have opposed the spending deal struck by the leadership and urged Johnson to review it, although the speaker of the lower house said on Friday that the deal was sticking.
