The year 2024 ushers, on the left, a field of ruins. That of the Nupes, which should only exist occasionally, thanks to tactical votes in the National Assembly, in the manner of the motion to reject the immigration law in December. Because outside the Palais Bourbon, the union behind La France insoumise, led by the tutelary figure of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, has fizzled out. Hamas' terror attack on Israel on October 7 and the divergent reactions it provoked will have finished off a Nupes that had already been limping for some time.
There is no better proof of this discord than the multiplication of lists in view of the European elections. However, the June 9 election serves as the first electoral test after 2022 and, above all, before 2027. Polls currently place the candidacy of Raphaël Glucksmann, soon to be inducted by the Socialist Party (PS), at more than 10%. If necessary, he would be invited to the podium, and thus make a comeback.
