It's a game-changer. In the space of a few years, the bicycle has gone from being a weekend or holiday leisure activity to a means of transport in its own right. The movement had already been underway for about ten years, but it accelerated with the public transport strike in the winter of 2019 and especially the health crisis of 2020.
Local authorities are therefore mobilising to set up transitional cycling facilities - more than 700 km of paths - with the aim of preventing people from getting back into their cars at the end of lockdown.
At the same time, the public authorities are releasing €90 million in the Coup de pouce vélo, a programme to support the use of two-wheelers. The graft takes. The old biclous are back in the light. The supply is exploding. It's the gold rush. Every month, new brands appear, lured by the craze of consumers. In 2022, the new car market reached nearly 2.6 million units, including 738,000 electrically assisted bicycles
