There was very little doubt. MEP François-Xavier Bellamy will be the head of the Republicans' list in the next European elections, party president Éric Ciotti announced on Monday evening on the TF1 television news, presenting him as a "man of convictions, values, work and experience".
"He is a remarkable MEP who has given influence to our group and to France" in the European Parliament, he said.
In an interview with Le Figaro, François-Xavier Bellamy said he was "very grateful" to Eric Ciotti. "This campaign involves a lot of the future of our political family, but also of democratic life in France and Europe. We have a duty to succeed, and I will give everything for it. I want to be the candidate of clarity and consistency," he said.
The head of the LR, Eric Ciotti, also announced that his party would vote "neither confidence nor censure at this stage" against the newly appointed Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.
