The manager of the branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Haifa was arrested on Monday morning on suspicion of accepting bribes in exchange for issuing illegal driver's licenses.
An investigation conducted by the National Unit for Combating Economic Crime at Lahav 433, in collaboration with the Hof District Fraud Division, the Security and Investigations Division of the Ministry of Transport and the Diamond Unit of the Tax Authority, revealed that the director of the licensing branch conspired with another to issue licenses to drivers who were driving drunk, under the influence of drugs or who do not meet the conditions for renewing their license for some other reason. The investigation also revealed that the branch manager received help from several branch employees and even made changes to the branch's computerized systems.

In addition to the branch manager, several other suspects were arrested, including lawyers. Upon making the arrest, the officers seized computers, mobile phones, documents, checks and stamps that could be used as evidence.
All the detainees were brought for interrogation at the HILAK offices and are being interrogated on suspicion of bribery, forgery, receiving fraudulently under aggravated circumstances, and more. Subsequently, and in accordance with the opening of the investigation, the suspects will be brought to court for a hearing on extending their detention.
