Andy Peuler advises citizens on the social benefits of the district of Upper Bavaria.

Erding – How do my parents pay for their inpatient care if their income and assets are not sufficient? Is there support for funding a 24-hour caregiver? I need an assistant in everyday life. Andy Peuler answers all these questions at the weekly consultation day on social benefits of the district of Upper Bavaria in Erding.

Mr. Peuler, who is your consultation day aimed at?

The consultation day is a free offer close to home once a week at the care support point. In doing so, we not only provide information about services for people with disabilities or help with care for people in need of care. We also assist with filling out applications and forms and help to find the right contact persons at the district.

How is the counselling offer accepted?

We receive very positive feedback. For many people, it is important to clarify their questions and concerns in a personal conversation without having to travel all the way to Munich.

What is particularly important to you when it comes to personal advice?

It is important to me to create certainty and clarity with regard to social law claims and to convey complex issues in a comprehensible way. With this information, those seeking advice can then make their own decisions and find the right support for them.

Please give us a few examples.

Many people have questions when they themselves or their relatives move into a nursing home and their own resources are not sufficient. It is also often not known that the district contributes to the costs of home care if necessary. When it comes to the organisation of care, we work together with the care support point and other local counselling centres.

What other concerns do you reach?

Since the district of Upper Bavaria is also responsible for integration assistance, we support all people with disabilities. Parents often come to us who would like to apply for special support or whose child would like to live more independently in adulthood. Our counselling service is also sought out by people with disabilities who need support with independent living, mobility and leisure activities.

Is there a topic that is particularly in demand?

Yes, the inpatient help for care. When it comes time to move into a nursing home, people are usually confronted with the issue of social assistance for the first time in their lives. This creates uncertainties as to whether partners or adult children will also have to step in financially. In a personal conversation, many questions can usually be clarified before the application is submitted, for example if real estate is available or has been given away.

How can you be reached?

I advise every Wednesday at the care base at Alois-Schießl-Platz 6 in Erding. Appointments can be made by phone (089) 2 19 82 10 55 or by e-mail to beratung-ed@bezirk-oberbayern.de.

Transparency note: This interview was provided to us by the district of Upper Bavaria. We've edited it.
