The director of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Haifa was arrested today (Monday) on serious suspicion of conspiring with another to issue licenses to drivers who do not meet the conditions for license renewal and whose license was revoked due to a variety of offenses, such as driving under the influence of drugs, drunk driving and more. Other suspects were also arrested along with her, including several lawyers.
The National Unit for Combating Economic Crime at Lahav 433, in a joint investigation with investigators from the fraud division in the Hof District and with the assistance of the Security and Investigations Division of the Ministry of Transport and the Diamond Unit of the Tax Authority, opened an investigation on suspicion of illegally issuing driver's licenses.

The investigation revealed that the suspect was assisted by other employees at the branch and made changes to the Licensing Ministry's computerized systems, all in return for receiving bribes. There is also suspicion of offenses of bribery, forgery, receiving something fraudulently under aggravated circumstances and other offenses.

This morning, the investigation became open with the arrest of those involved in the affair, and they are brought for interrogation at the offices of the Israel Security Agency. At the end of their interrogation and in accordance with the findings, the suspects will be brought to the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court for a hearing on extending their detention. During the arrests this morning, property was seized, including, inter alia: computers, mobile phones, documents, checks and stamps.
