Iran claims: We fired missiles at "terrorist targets" in Iraq's Kurdish region / Social media documentation
The IRGC claimed responsibility Tuesday night for the rocket fire on the Syrian city of Aleppo, alongside missiles it claimed to have fired at "anti-Iranian terrorist targets and spy centers" in Iraq's Kurdish region. Both cases, according to Iran, were in response to the "recent terrorist crimes committed by Iran's enemies" – a week after the horrific attack on the grave of assassinated Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, in which 95 people were killed. Among the targets that Iran claimed were attacked in Iraq's Kurdish region was a Mossad spy center.
Iranian media quoted the IRGC as saying, "Ballistic missiles were used to destroy espionage centers and anti-Iranian terrorist targets near the city of Erbil in northern Iraq" and emphasized the Israeli Mossad. In addition, they claimed that the attack was directed at "perpetrators of terrorist acts in the Islamic Republic."
This is not the first time Iran has attacked targets in Iraq's Kurdish region following terrorist attacks on its territory, regardless of the identity of the organization behind it. U.S. officials said "U.S. facilities were not affected by the strike."
