Russia is expected to launch its version of Wikipedia on a global scale today, it's called Ruviki. Reuters reports it online. The testing of this platform began in mid-2023, and there are currently more articles than in the Russian segment of Wikipedia. To date, among the most read articles on the new platform is a list of the dead of 2023 and the escalation of the war in the Middle East. It is not known who the investors will be, nor how much the operation will cost. Russia has not yet decided whether to block Wikipedia, one of the few sources of online information left standing after the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, according to Reuters online. Russian courts, however, have imposed a series of fines on the online encyclopedia for Ukraine-related content since the war broke out. The last one, last April. Russian President Vladimir Putin gave his approval to new alternative platforms to Wikipedia in May 2022.
