A 72-year-old hunter was accidentally killed on Sunday, January 14 during a hunting trip in Meurthe-et-Moselle by the shooting of another hunter who was taken into custody, the Nancy prosecutor's office said on Monday.
The "fatal accident" occurred in the morning "during a hunting action organized by (the Approved Communal Hunting Association, ACCA) of Gondreville", a commune west of Nancy, told AFP the prosecutor of the Republic François Capin-Dulhoste, confirming information from France Bleu Sud Lorraine.

The 57-year-old gunman and the victim, a 72-year-old man, are two participants," he added. "The defendant was taken into custody as part of an investigation on the charge of manslaughter entrusted to the Toul research brigade," the magistrate added.
During the 2022-2023 season, hunting accidents caused the death of six people, none of whom were non-hunters, according to the assessment at the end of August by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB). Three non-hunters had been killed in the previous two seasons. For non-fatal injuries, the OFB recorded 78 firearm-related accidents last season.
