"Ernesto Galli della Loggia was certainly and incredibly wrong in prophesying a differentiation at school between able-bodied and disabled students, almost evoking a return to differential classes.
An insult not only for students and their families but also for tens of thousands of teachers, pedagogues, operators and assistants who have made disability and inclusion a reason for living and not simply professional.
I would suggest to Galli della Loggia to deepen his studies on the subject, perhaps by reading something by Prof. Ianes.
Having made these necessary premises about the therapy, which is very wrong, written in the Corriere della Sera by the professor, I would focus more on the diagnosis".
This was said by Rossano Sasso, leader of the Lega Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, who announced the forthcoming presentation of a bill on disability and inclusion in schools.
There are three proposals by Sasso to do something immediately: increase the number of places advertised by universities, perform teachers on support, "it is no longer possible to place disabled students alongside people who are not specialized"; guarantee educational and continuous continuity to the disabled student, favoring assignments on support to the teacher who had held the same position with the same student previously. Finally, the teacher of the subject must become a teacher of inclusion in all respects and must not be a world apart from the support teacher.
"It is not a school of inclusion, for example, when there are teachers who are not specialized in the subject and therefore lack the appropriate skills. This is not the case, for example, when an autistic child changes support teacher every year, losing all the educational successes acquired. It is not so when the teachers of the subject are not adequately trained on inclusion or, worse I feel, do not collaborate with the support teachers. It is not so when you use the intake on the support only as a taxi and then take the one on the common place. There is no denying the great improvements in disability policies in Italian schools over the last 40 years, but the time has come to do more," Sasso concludes.
