In 2002, Barbara Schöneberger and Götz Otto co-hosted the Bambi Awards. For the actor, it was a "horrible event."

Munich – It is very rare for Barbara Schöneberger (49) and Götz Otto (56) to appear together in front of the camera. Of course, the two have different professions: she is a presenter and entertainer, he an actor. 2002, however, was such a moment. The duo co-hosted the Bambi Awards in Berlin. Today, a good 21 years later, they look back – and don't leave a good hair on the show.

Barbara Schöneberger and Götz Otto talk about the trauma event of the Bambi award ceremony

There is one encounter in particular that both of them still remember, Otto in particular. "I think Götz really took a trauma with him from our joint Bambi performance at the time," says Schöneberger, who recently spoke openly about her pregnancy, in the foreword of her podcast "With the Waffles of a Woman".

It is about what Otto calls a "very, very strange encounter" with the organizer of the gala, the publisher Hubert Burda. The actor, who often plays the villain in TV productions, is initially unsure. "Is it even allowed to tell that?" he asks incredulously, before he begins.

Burda had spoken to the presenter duo in a separate area of a hotel one day before the Bambi award ceremony. It was there that Burda first spoke of the significance of the Bambi Awards, says Otto. He told the two of them that he was very happy that they were hosting the show, and then formulated a sentence that apparently burned into Otto's memory: "And, just so they know: I can't really help them in their respective professions, but I can harm them. Do it well."

Otto goes on to describe that he and Schöneberger looked at each other and thought: "Did he really say that?" He had "really shit his pants," admitted Otto, who apparently feared for his career. He didn't feel comfortable on the stage of the gala. "I was a bit overwhelmed by the show as such. Then they told you not to look at the teleprompter, it sucks. It really stressed me out."

The moderation also gave him a hard time. "I made the big mistake of trying to be Götz Otto and not playing a presenter. That would have been much better. As an actor, you have to come on stage and play someone, that works much better than being someone," says Otto.

"I completely suppressed it because for me this event was so terrible. After that, I started getting gray hair and telling confused stuff. I was really traumatized to a certain extent afterwards," Otto sums up in the podcast. Schöneberger recently blasphemed with Atze Schröder about the German Schlager.
