Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farrakhan said Tuesday evening at the National Economic Forum in Davos that his country would recognize Israel if an agreement was reached that would include the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He said: "We agree that regional peace includes peace for Israel, but that can only happen through peace for the Palestinians through a Palestinian state." He also said securing regional peace through the establishment of a Palestinian state was "something we have indeed worked on with the U.S. administration."
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who was also present at Davos, said that one of the goals of the October 7 Hamas attack was to disrupt normalization talks in the Middle East. According to Politico, Sullivan argued that only normalization would pave the way for a two-state solution.
As you may recall, there were contacts between Saudi Arabia and Israel to establish relations and normalize relations between the countries, but following the war, the process was frozen.
