After Netanyahu claimed that the transfer of the drugs was under his direction, the French government claims that this was a move initiated by it and Qatar together with the families of the abductees. "For several months, France and Qatar have been working together to facilitate the delivery of medicines to abductees held in Gaza," the French government said in a statement.
"In the same operation, the Forum of Families of the Missing and Abducted in Gaza, which is operating from the end of October 2023, together with the authorities in France and Qatar, was initiated in order to identify the medical condition of each of the abductees and determine the means of delivering the medicines," she said.

In the announcement, the government detailed the process of buying and delivering drugs to the abductees, in which Israel's role in the operation is described in a minor way. "On the orders of French President Emmanuel Macron, the diplomatic and medical teams of the Center for Crisis Management at the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs have drawn up a preliminary list and supervised the procurement of medicines for 45 abductees as well as their deportation to Qatar, on Saturday, January 13, 2024," it said. "Qatar subsequently negotiated the delivery of these medicines to Gaza, in cooperation with the Israeli authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The operation is ongoing."
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced last Friday that for the first time since the beginning of the war, medicines will be allowed to enter abductees held by Hamas thanks to Mossad chief Dadi Barnea's leadership of the campaign against Qatar.
