"The Mountain Doctor" has been on television for 15 years. New episodes will finally air in January – but what's next for the cult series after that?

Ellmau - "The Mountain Doctor" is one of the most successful German TV series. The format was broadcast for the first time in 2008 with Hans Sigl (54) and has since become a perennial favorite. For ZDF, the series about the sympathetic doctor Martin Gruber is an important ratings guarantee. So it already seems out of the question that the upcoming 17th season will once again attract numerous viewers in front of the TV screens. It starts on 4 January, when new episodes will be shown every Thursday at 20.15 pm. But many fans are already wondering: What happens after that?

Hans Sigl on the "Bergdoktor" set: "See you next year"

On Instagram, Hans Sigl now sheds light on the matter. In a video, the actor chats with his film daughter Ronja Forcher (27) and incidentally reveals that "The Mountain Doctor" is probably going into overtime once again.

Viewers can breathe a sigh of relief: The story of Dr. Gruber is far from over. "Oh dear Ronja Forcher, thank you for season 17 and I'm looking forward to season 18. See you next year," the series actor captioned the clip.

In the video, his colleague also explained: "And we didn't shoot past each other, but really shot together." She was referring to rumors that Dr. Gruber and his daughter would become estranged in season 17. Fortunately, according to Ronja Forcher and Hans Sigl, this is not the case. "We shot beautifully together, we shot in front of each other and behind each other and next to each other and it was beautiful," the TV star added cheerfully. "Season 17 is in the can, it was glorious!"

Of course, this great news caused a lot of enthusiasm among the fans. "The father-daughter team. It's great that you exist. I'm really looking forward to the new season," one user commented. Elsewhere there were comments such as "You guys are so refreshing", "Great... I'm very curious about it" and "Mega sympathetic, your posts".
