The accident was captured on the cameras of several civilians at the scene and the small plane was seen hitting a pole on the side of the highway, losing control and crashing in a huge orange explosion. The explosion damaged a truck and a private vehicle parked on the highway, injuring several people.
The firefighting plane was engaged in extinguishing a fire near Panguilamo's small airport, which is mainly used for spray planes, firefighting aircraft and search and rescue helicopters.
