The winter fairy tale on Schongau's Marienplatz has begun: Since Saturday, the ice rink has been standing next to the Marienbrunnen fountain - including a small snack bar. The opportunity to move on runners on the plates, which for a short time represent the world of children, is available until Sunday, February 4.

Schongau – Actually, it was planned that Schongau's second mayor Daniela Puzzovio would throw the first puck into the arena at 11 a.m. on time last Saturday. But she had made the calculation without the children: The little mammoths of EA Schongau simply couldn't wait. For days they have been looking forward to storming into the arena at Marienplatz.

So they simply brought the start of this year's season forward by a good hour. "The ice rink is supposed to be put through its paces again by the young players," was a justification that made the rounds among the spectators. Because this winter fun should not only attract the ice hockey youth to the plates: Anything that has two legs and can walk reasonably straight ahead is welcome. Of course, the space can also be rented by groups who are looking for a different variety after work.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter. And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

As Max Becher, the "father of the ice arena", explains, the area was ideal for children's birthday parties last year. "Everyone is always in view, everyone can let off steam, and there is food right next door," says the "Kuven-Max". In addition, he emphasizes that basically anyone can use the arena at any time during the opening hours from 9 a.m. to 18 p.m.

This service was also offered on the opening day. Frederic, 16 years old, had pitched his tent in the form of a small wooden booth next to the arena. In this "MobiliKiosk" he offers tea and sausages for children, and for adults he pulls the drawer a little higher. "They get mulled wine and hot dogs," Frederic reveals.

Thursday Pasta Evening

As he confirms with a nod of his head, his mulled wine is definitely in great demand on this day. Furthermore, he announces, this service is offered in any case on Saturdays. Of course, arrangements can always be made. A pasta evening is planned for Thursday.

The little strikers and defenders of the U7 and U9 youth of the Mammoths are in their element on the opening day. It goes up and down. The cheeks on the faces have turned red.

Marienplatz to be revitalised

Much to the delight of Mayor Puzzovio: she has taken her box seat and is watching the game with enthusiasm. "You can see the kids having fun, and that's the most important thing," says Puzzovio. "Of course, this measure is also intended to revitalize Marienplatz," she adds.

"Everyone was really fired up for the ice," says Roland Ertl from the EA Schongau Friends Association. Although the kids have their training times in the ice stadium during the week, this fun has to be easy.

Young talent is enthusiastic about what they do

In any case, that's how Marina Regensberg (7) sees it. She started ice skating two years ago, and now she is already playing in the EAS U9 youth team. Marina wants to emulate her father Thomas, who chased the puck for many years with the Mammoths.

Lukas (8) also plays with Marina in the U9. Although he trains three times a week, he doesn't want to miss the spectacle at Marienplatz. He came with Grandma Josefine & Grandpa Josef. Lukas also has a pre-existing condition. Grandpa played in all EAS teams for decades.

Register in time and rent an arena

Even "Sprade-TV" announcer Tobias Kalbitzer stands at the perimeter of the arena. Including wife and dachshund lady. Kalbitzer hopes that this fun will give adults a taste for it and then come to the stadium for EAS games. Above all, however, he is pleased that the children accept this offer with so much enthusiasm.

If you are interested in renting the arena, you can do so with Max Becher: He can be reached by phone on 0171/8770947 or by e-mail at max.becher@ea-schongau.de.
