Kaufering – What happened last year at the volunteer fire brigade Markt Kaufering? At the Annual General Meeting, Commander Markus Rietig reviewed the past twelve months.

The 106 comrades performed 11,175 hours of service, which were divided into 6,946 hours of training service, 841 training hours and 3,388 hours of service. Rietig is particularly proud of the steady growth in the number of people participating in the fire service. As a result, three young people were once again taken on for active service after completing their time as a youth firefighter. In addition, eight other citizens decided to join the volunteer fire brigade, three of them as already trained firefighters. With 25 young people, the youth fire brigade is currently fully staffed.

With 211 missions last year, a greatly increased number of missions had to be managed. A total of 28 fire operations, 140 technical assistance, 22 false alarms, five security guards and 16 other missions were scheduled.

The severe storm on 11 July was particularly labour-intensive. After a thunderstorm front passed over Kaufering, there were a total of 63 storm-related operations. Uprooted trees, in particular, caused a swath of devastation.

But it was not only in Kaufering that the weir was used during storms. The Kaufering turntable ladder was dispatched to Bad Bayersoien on 26 August. There, the severe thunderstorms had damaged 384 houses and countless vehicles.

At the beginning of December, the firefighters were in continuous operation due to the storm. Due to a strong onset of winter at the beginning of December, the masses of snow led to numerous missions in the district.

Several major fires, such as a major fire on an agricultural estate in Scheuring, challenged the Kaufering fire brigade. However, technical assistance after traffic accidents was also part of the operation. The fire brigade rescue boat, which was only put into service in the summer, had two missions on the Lech. For example, an ambulance lift was recovered from the Lech and a search for a person allegedly floating in the water was supported.

The new fire station, the planning of which has been dragging on for several years, is urgently needed. Here, despite the challenges in the budget, Rietig appealed to continue the construction of the building.

A number of honours and promotions were made for their achievements in the fire service: Anna Hobelsberger, Benjamin Korndörfer-Möller and Manuel Schurr were promoted to firefighters. Lionel Barbier was promoted to chief firefighter and Roland Dahm was promoted to fire chief.
