The Armed Forces of Ukraine publish a video of a drone that completely destroys Russian tanks with just one hit. The explosive power is enormous.

Avdiivka - With arms deliveries from the United States and Germany faltering, the military situation for the Ukrainian armed forces in the Ukraine war could truly be better.

Russian tank simply flies into the air: Ukrainians continue to develop kamikaze drone

While Ukrainian troops at least received their Abrams battle tanks with additional protection, they are constantly showing that they can inflict heavy losses on Kremlin autocrat Vladimir Putin's invading army with their kamikaze drones.

In mid-January, the Ukrainians shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) of an advanced drone that is apparently capable of exploding entire tanks with just one hit. The explosive power is enormous.

As the Ukrainian media project Noelreports writes at X, this blow against Putin's troops is said to have recently occurred near Avdiivka in the Donbass. A Russian T-80 tank can be seen. These tanks are recognizable by their flat turret as well as the eye-catching side skirts on the tracks. In addition, the drone video at the rear of the tank shows devices for the auxiliary tanks that the T-80s usually carry.

Ukraine drone with huge clout: Alarming finding for Russia

A key finding of the video: Ukraine's drones can obviously carry heavier and thus more dangerous grenades. This, of course, increases the effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles. The fact that an entire tank, in this case weighing around 46 tons, simply flies into the air is downright alarming for Russia. Most recently, the American news magazine Forbes reported that the Ukrainians are using drones to lay treacherous anti-tank mines behind the front line. In this case, too, the PTM-3 anti-tank mine used is quite heavy at around 4.9 kilograms. This means that the drones can carry explosives with more and more weight.

Called a "payload" in military parlance. In most cases, comparatively small quadcopters with four propellers are used for direct attacks from the air, which are steered remotely to their targets by drone pilots on screens. How precisely the drone specialists succeed in this is also illustrated by the images shared at X.

Russia's army: T-80 will be sent into battle at Avdiivka with weak armor

Because: The drone pilot hits the tank at an absolute weak point. It is the lower back of the tower. Although some of the ammunition in the fighting compartment is stored in a rotating carousel, this place is comparatively weakly armored "only" with armored steel plates. To put this into perspective, Russian T-80s were developed in the Soviet Union at the end of the 1970s, when anti-tank guided missiles were not accurate and drones were at best a vision of the future.

The Soviet engineers, on the other hand, expected frontal tank battles, which is why the turret front is protected with 40 centimeters of composite armor. As with the older T-72, battles with the T-80 resemble real ascension commandos because the commander and loader sit in the turret directly above the ammunition. In the above example, the grenade of the drone apparently hits exactly in the ammunition, which leads to a violent explosion in the tank.

Powerful Ukraine drone: turret is simply blown up by Russian tank

As can be seen in the video, typically the entire tower is blown down from the hull. And in a fraction of a second. For the three-man crew there is hardly any chance of survival. Negligent: The T-80 from the video is not even protected with the tiles of reactive armor in the rear area. This proves once again how ruthlessly Russian commanders send their soldiers onto the battlefield. In the end, it was probably easy for the Ukrainian drone pilots to identify the tank's weak point and eliminate it.

Symptomatic: Actually, Moscow wanted to have taken the completely destroyed small town of Avdiivka long ago so that it could concentrate its troops on Kupyansk (Kharkiv region) further north. However, the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their ground here as well. Among other things, because they obviously increase the explosive power of their kamikaze drones. (pm)
