After more than 50 years at the helm of Trigema, Wolfgang Grupp has handed over the reins to his children. In an interview, he now talks about how his everyday life in the company has changed.

Burladingen – The handover is done and dusted and the new managing directors are in office: A new era began at Trigema in Burladingen (Zollernalb district) at the beginning of the year. Wolfgang Grupp (81), who led the company for more than 50 years, will be replaced by son Wolfgang Junior (32) and daughter Bonita (34). Although the decision-making authority now lies with Trigema's successors, their father seems to continue to be available for wise advice in the background for the time being. In an interview with the Zollern Alb Kurier, the long-time company patriarch talks about his everyday life in retirement.

Wolfgang Grupp retains his traditional place in the office

When asked if he is looking forward to retirement, Grupp answers: "You can't say that. My daily routine won't change much. I still come to the office every day." However, as the 81-year-old points out, you get tired faster as you get older. "That's why I'll come half an hour later or leave earlier." He will definitely keep his large desk, around which he has gathered all his administrative staff. "That's what my family insisted on."

When it comes to his future after the Trigema handover, Grupp does not see himself at home relaxing for the time being, but continues to do so in the company. However, this is not unusual: he probably wants to make sure that his successors settle in well and that he has an open ear for any questions that arise in day-to-day business.

Highly emotional farewell speech at Trigema: Wolfgang Grupp was a constant for many

With a highly emotional farewell speech, Grupp officially said goodbye as managing director at the end of December. The video made waves online – it achieved more than 1.2 million views and more than 3,400 comments on YouTube (as of January 15)

At this point in time, it is difficult for many to imagine Trigema without Wolfgang Grupp. Even if his views on the modern professional world, works councils or home office are not approved by everyone, the entrepreneur was a constant for many. Above all, he was held in high esteem for his commitment to Baden-Württemberg as a production location.

Although he is often asked whether he wants to go into politics now, Grupp apparently has no such ambitions. As he explained to the Zollern Alb Kurier, he could only imagine a career in politics under very specific conditions. So the Bundestag will probably have to do without him for the time being.
