In memory of David "Dogo" Leitner, "Operation Dogo" was launched today (Thursday) in which thousands of Jews around the world will eat falafel.
The operation will take place in the shadow of the war and will also be attended by IDF soldiers in the territory of Israel and Gaza, evacuees, wounded in the rehabilitation departments, students, sports fans and more.
Last summer Dogo passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of perpetuating the memory of the Holocaust and empowering the survivors in Israel and around the world. On January 18, 1945, Dogo set out on the death march from the Auschwitz extermination camp. While walking, on the verge of losing his strength, he remembered his mother's story about the "bilkalech", which grow on the trees in Israel, and that memory led him throughout the journey.

After surviving the march, he immigrated to Israel, and decided that every January 18, he would eat the "Israeli Bilkalech", as he defined it - the falafel, as a sign and symbol of his personal victory over the Nazis and the victory of life.
The operation, which takes place as part
of a project of the Holocaust Museum "Beit Ha'adot", will be held for the ninth year.
"Dogo symbolized the victory of life over the Nazis in the most wonderful way, with the unending joy of life, the rare human love and the immense love for the Land of Israel and the State of Israel, said Rachel Rosenman Afar, the museum's CEO.
