The traffic light has rejected the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian deputy defense minister is still hoping for deliveries from Germany.

Kiev - Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Hawryliuk continues to believe in a delivery of Taurus cruise missiles from Germany.

And this despite the fact that the Bundestag spoke out against such a delivery in the Ukraine war on Wednesday (January 18).

In an interview with the Tagesspiegel, Hawryliuk said: “Despite the negative Bundestag vote, I expect that we will receive all the support we need – including the Taurus.”

During the vote, the traffic light coalition almost unanimously spoke out against the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

The request for delivery came from the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, as the

The traffic light government actually wants to deliver the Taurus systems to Ukraine - but the Union proposal is “indecent”.

Taurus from Germany would support troops in Ukraine

“It is never too late to provide help,” says Hawryliuk in an interview.

The Taurus weapons system would provide an advantage on the battlefield as well as support the Air Force “in the defense of civilian infrastructure.”

However, it is still too early to speak of a turning point in the war.

During the debate about deliveries from Germany, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of a “major crisis for all of Europe” if military deliveries were further delayed.

Zelensky announced this at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

If Ukraine loses to Russia, “a war between NATO and Russia” would break out, said Zelensky.

“Downright indecent”: Application for Taurus delivery to Ukraine rejected

The Greens and the FDP would actually push for the Taurus systems to be delivered to Ukraine, reports the

.

Sara Nanni, defense policy spokeswoman for the Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag, even spoke out in an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW) that German weapons should be used for Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.

But why was the application rejected?

The Union's request was linked to a plenary debate on the annual report of the Armed Forces Commissioner.

FDP defense expert Agnes Strack-Zimmermann denounced in a written statement that was available to the

dpa

: “It is downright indecent to confuse a report by the military commissioner that is being discussed today, which relates exclusively to the interests of soldiers in the Bundeswehr “To confuse the debate about future support for Ukraine.”

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) initially spoke out against delivering Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

He feared that targets on Russian territory would also be attacked due to the long range.

The coalition partners would criticize the Chancellor's attitude.
