Memmingen – Some were on foot and others were traveling in vehicles.
Since the Corona pandemic, a group of demonstrators have been marching through Memmingen's city center on Thursdays.
In order to draw attention to their concerns, numerous farmers joined the protest march with a tractor parade on Thursday last week (January 11, 2024).
Up to 390 meeting participants joined the registered “Memmingen is running” rally, which has been taking place weekly since the Corona pandemic.
With drums, chants, horns and banners, they drew attention to their demands and clearly expressed their displeasure with the government.
During the Corona pandemic it was still said “Merkel has to go!”, the signs now read: “The traffic lights have to go!”
However, groups inclined towards Reich citizens and lateral thinkers, as could be seen from the flags carried (e.g. from the Kingdom of Saxony) and signs from supporters of the conspiracy theorist Daniele Ganser, were also mixed in with the demonstrators.
Media representatives present were also dubbed the “lying press”.
Due to the heavy participation of vehicles in the demonstration, around 75 tractors, tractors, trucks and cars were traveling through Memmingen's city center, police forces accompanied the six blocks formed along the elevator route to ensure traffic safety.
By forming blocks, the impact on the traffic flow in the city area was minimized and the assembly events ran (almost) smoothly.
However, the rally didn't go entirely smoothly: a member of the meeting knocked over a press representative's camera tripod.
The police have launched an investigation into this on suspicion of damage to property.
Otherwise, according to police, the meeting was peaceful and trouble-free.
The “Memmingen is running” rally, which currently takes place regularly on Thursdays from 6 p.m., has also been registered for this evening, with up to 50 vehicles taking part.
