The days of the old Planegger castle economy are numbered: after 29 years, the demolition permit has been granted.

Now things have to go quickly, the preparations have begun.

Planegg

- The government of Upper Bavaria has given permission to demolish the old Planegg castle restaurant.

This brings to an end a decades-long dispute between the Hirsch owner family and the approval authorities.

“I was assured that the demolition should take place quickly, as quickly as it can be organized,” said Mayor Hermann Nafziger when asked by Merkur.

He is relieved “that the building will soon no longer pose any danger.”

The old castle restaurant located at Pasinger Straße 4 is the property of Selly Verwaltungs GmbH & Co. Vermögensvermietungs KG, whose managing director is Philipp von Hirsch.

The listed building in its current form dates back to the late 18th century.

It has been empty for more than half a century.

The condition deteriorated noticeably.

Partial collapse in October

Last October there was a partial collapse on the east side.

A structural report commissioned as a result spoke of a “significant risk” that “large parts of the entire complex would collapse”.

Pasinger Straße was closed to traffic in the area, and the closure was initially extended until the end of February by the Munich district office.

The dispute over the old castle economy has now lasted around six decades.

In the 1960s, there were government plans to demolish the building in order to widen the street.

But Ferdinand von Hirsch, Philipp von Hirsch's uncle, refused to sell.

A ban on changes was issued and later lifted again.

In 1995, when the castle restaurant was now a listed building, the district office rejected the application for a demolition permit.

Since then, an objection procedure has been ongoing with the government of Upper Bavaria.

“No longer reasonable”

After the partial collapse, von Hirsch increased his efforts to bring about a decision.

Now the government of Upper Bavaria brought the process to an end, revoked the district office's decision and granted permission for demolition under monument protection law.

“The decision is based on the fact that the owner can no longer be expected to maintain the monument for economic reasons,” said press spokesman Wolfgang Rupp.

Von Hirsch's lawyers also argued this in a letter that they wrote after the partial collapse.

According to the most recently submitted reports and economic calculations, the preservation of the monument cannot be financed in the long term solely from the income from the property, Rupp continued.

Selly KG as the owner would have to use its own assets.

Mayor Nafziger was also informed.

“The justification is 18 pages long,” he says.

“I am glad that clear conditions have finally been created.

That was an eyesore.” The community and owners are open to developing something new on the site.

Nafzigers have apartments in mind.

Philipp von Hirsch is currently abroad.

The preparations for the demolition are continuing without him, says Nafziger.

“It will be clear in the next few days when it will start.”
