Freiburg's central defender Lienhart will be out for six weeks due to a groin injury.
Coach Streich therefore wants to talk to the club about defensive players regarding possible winter transfers.
Freiburg - Bundesliga club SC Freiburg will have to do without central defender Philipp Lienhart for around six weeks and is therefore thinking even more about new additions.
The Austrian national soccer player will undergo groin surgery on Friday, SC coach Christian Streich explained two days before the Baden duel at the start of the second half of the season on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
Lienhart had had groin problems since December, which were initially treated conservatively.
He was on the bench in the 0-0 draw against Union Berlin last Saturday, but now has to take a break.
Therefore, the club also needs to talk about defenders when it comes to possible winter transfers, said Streich.
A loan or a firm commitment may be examined.
But there won't be any new signings against Hoffenheim yet.
Streich warned of Hoffenheim's counterattack before the game between the seventh in the table and the eighth, in which the European Cup places are also at stake.
“They can switch incredibly well and have fast players,” said the 58-year-old.
Freiburg won the first leg in Sinsheim 2-1 at the start of the season and overall they also have a good record against TSG.
The sports club won three of the last four Bundesliga games and one ended in a draw.
