With the adjustment of the child allowances, the difference to child benefit increases again.

This puts families with small and middle incomes at a disadvantage.

Berlin - In the dispute over a better system for state benefits for families, FDP Finance Minister Christian Lindner has spoken out against an increase in child benefit and referred to an increase in the child allowance.

This is reported by the

Süddeutsche Zeitung

with reference to coalition circles.

The problem is that mathematically only higher earners with a family income of over 110,000 euros per year benefit from the higher child allowances.

For parents with small and medium incomes, and thus the majority of families in Germany, the current solution proposed by Lindner's Ministry of Finance would not bring any improvement.

On the contrary, the gap between child benefit, which families receive as a monthly state payment, and the child allowance, which is only calculated in the tax return, would increase for the majority of parents in Germany.

According to media reports, Finance Minister Christian Lindner has rejected an increase in child benefit.

The gap between the child allowance and child benefit: an increase of nine euros would be the solution

According to the SZ report, a solution that would counteract this development and reduce the gap as agreed in the coalition agreement of the traffic light parties would be to increase the child benefit rate by nine euros to 259 euros per child per month, for which the total costs would be around 1, would amount to 5 billion euros.

However, according to the information from the SZ, this is expressly not planned.

When asked by the newspaper, Lindner's finance ministry simply said that the minister's "goal" was to "further relieve the burden on people".

There is also a “need for adjustments to the corresponding tax allowances in order to avoid unconstitutional taxation”.

There was strong criticism of the rejection of an increase in child benefit from representatives of the coalition partners SPD and the Greens.

Increase in allowances: child allowance increases to 9,312 euros

The planned increase in tax allowances for adults and children is a consequence of the increase in citizens' allowance that came into force at the beginning of the year.

In order to also relieve the burden on people who live exclusively on their own income.

That is why, according to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the tax allowance for adults was increased by 696 euros to 11,604 euros, and the tax allowance that parents can claim for children is now 360 euros higher at 9,312 euros.
