A fair healthcare system, a livable climate and education reform – this is what the beer party is fighting for in the National Council elections in Austria.

Vienna – The beer party wants to enter the Austrian parliament in 2024.

There is only one important point standing in the way of the candidacy: financial support.

Without this, the costly election campaign would be out of the question.

The goals that Dominik Wlazny – better known by his stage name Marco Pogo – is pursuing with his party are diverse.

The Viennese advocates, among other things, equal opportunities for all children, a livable climate, affordable housing, education reform and a fair healthcare system.

In order to be able to compete in the Austrian elections next fall, Wlazny would like to create a budget totaling 1.2 million euros.

His plan: gain 20,000 new members or collect donations by April.

This emerges from a report by the

The party leader rejects large donors because, as he himself says, they would make people dependent.

“We want to do something”: Beer Party wants to enter the Austrian Parliament with big goals

The 37-year-old appears ambitious and ready to act: “We want to do something, we can do something.” Politically speaking, the chairman already assessed his party as fit.

An election campaign could now only fail because of financial resources.

The versatility of the members is also an advantage for the beer party, as they come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds: “They are good people,” said the party leader.

The implementation of socially relevant issues is particularly important for the party.

“A golden credit card must not be the door to better medical care,” said Wlazny on Thursday when announcing that the beer party would like to enter the Austrian parliament.

“Equal pay for equal work” is also a focus of the party.

According to the politician, not enough is being done on this point, especially when it comes to childcare places.

A faster expansion is needed so that women are given equal opportunities in the world of work.

Another key issue that the trained doctor would like to address together with his party is rising rental prices.

“If it is always said that every pot finds its lid, this must also apply to the rent cap,” explained Wlazny.

They also want to use their politics to promote education reform and children at risk of poverty.

Wlazny first became known to a wider public as the singer and frontman of the punk band Turbobier.

In this role he also adopted the stage name Marco Pogo.

The beer party was founded in 2015 in the Simmering district of Vienna.

After the 2019 National Council elections, the beer party now wants to catch up

Four percent of the vote is necessary for the Beer Party to enter the National Council.

According to polls, Wlazny and his party are close to the number of votes needed.

He already achieved an impressive result in the election of the Austrian Federal President in 2022, where the qualified doctor ran.

As Austria's youngest presidential candidate, Wlazny came in third place with 8.3 percent of the vote.

If the beer party's financial goal is reached by April and the candidacy is secured, this would not be the Austrian party's first appearance.

They already had a place on the ballot in Vienna in 2019.

However, the result back then was not very convincing at 0.1 percent of the vote.

Andreas Babler in particular is unlikely to be particularly happy about a possible candidacy from Wlazny and the Beer Party.

The SPÖ leader would like to become chancellor in the coming election, but in surveys he is far behind Herbert Kickl's FPÖ.

The Beer Party could then challenge the Social Democrats for even more votes.
