At the end of 2023, during COP28 in Dubai, nearly 200 countries, including the United States, enacted the
“transition away from fossil fuels”
to fight global warming.
Yet last year, oil and gas production reached record levels in the United States.
And new peaks are expected to be recorded in 2024 and 2025. Average US oil production will amount to 13.2 million barrels per day (bpd) this year and 13.4 million next year, says the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Natural gas production is also expected to reach an unprecedented level.
According to the Rystad Energy firm, the United States increased its crude production by nearly 1 million barrels per day in one year, bringing it to nearly 13 million.
The country is, by far, consolidating its position as the world's leading producer of black gold, thanks to shale hydrocarbons, extracted in a particularly polluting manner.
