They are for it, but voted against it.
Since the spring, many deputies from the ruling parties - notably in the ranks of the liberal FDP party and the Greens - have been loudly demanding the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian army.
However, by a large majority, the Bundestag on Wednesday rejected a proposed resolution from the CDU-CSU group, expressly asking the federal government to “
finally and without delay provide Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine
”.
Faced with their contradiction, the deputies caught at fault accused the conservative opposition of “
tactical maneuver
” and of wanting to destabilize an already shaky coalition.
Another argument put forward: this resolution would have “
no value without the agreement of the chancellor
”.
Last October, Olaf Scholz rejected this initiative “
until further notice
”.
He is in fact doubly recalcitrant: to deliver these weapons, and to explain why.
