The arrest of a young groom during the wedding caused a general outcry.

Now further details are becoming known.

The man evaded the authorities several times.

Update from January 17th, 2:37 p.m.:

The case also attracted attention beyond the Austrian borders: Above all, outrage was directed against the federal authority, which had several officials blow up a wedding during the ceremony.

Before he could say his vows, employees of the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA) handcuffed the groom, who was of Turkish origin, and took him away.

The 26-year-old Kurd's lawyer in particular expressed great doubts about the legality of the action.

He immediately filed a complaint with the Federal Administrative Court.

But that probably didn't help: as

krone.at

reports, the man is already in Turkey.

Accordingly, the man is said to have sat on a Turkish Airlines flight on Tuesday evening (January 16th) after almost three days in detention before deportation.

The actions of federal officials from the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA) appeared particularly merciless: they took the groom away during the wedding ceremony.

He did not have a valid residence permit.

Now the authority is justifying its actions.

Wedding scandal in Austria: The groom who was arrested is said to have deliberately disregarded instructions from the authorities

He is accused of having resided in Austria unlawfully.

In March 2023, the BFA concluded that the man “is not at risk of persecution within the meaning of the Geneva Refugee Convention” in his Turkish homeland and rejected him.

There were then several attempts to legally deport the 26-year-old.

We are talking about 13 fixed frame tests.

It is said that he avoided arrest by hiding.

The man missed the deadline for voluntary departure and was never found at his registered address.

The authorities saw the drastic and relentless attack during the young Kurd's wedding as the last resort.

“The BFA was aware of the date of the marriage and therefore the only option chosen was to carry out the arrest as part of the marriage,” says the BFA.

A little later she returned with several officials from the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA).

Wedding ends for groom in detention: husband is arrested during the ceremony

“I have to arrest her now,” one of the officers said to the groom in a video that appeared to have been recorded by a wedding guest.

You can't wait until after the wedding.

The bride, who is originally from Germany, then burst into tears.

The two have been a couple for a year and a half.

“He didn’t commit a crime.

But his dignity was completely taken away,” said the bride, describing the incident.

The 26-year-old Kurd is now in detention pending deportation.

“By getting married, he would have been immediately entitled to residency,” his lawyer told the Austrian broadcaster

ORF.

However, the police wanted to prevent that.

His asylum application was rejected just a few days before the wedding.

He came to Austria as early as 2022 and applied for asylum.

Groom is arrested during his wedding: police take him away from the registry office

What will happen next for the couple remains unclear.

In view of the rejected decision, the groom has to leave Austria.

His lawyer, however, is certain that the wedding is legal and has been “planned for a long time.”

“You cannot blow up a wedding for the purpose of preventing the legality of the stay,” he said of the authorities’ actions.

The lawyer calls the authorities' actions “barbaric” and has filed a complaint with the Federal Administrative Court.

Now the 26-year-old's lawyer wants to prevent the deportation.

There were “irregularities” in the process, he told

ORF.

The BFA did not want to comment for data protection reasons.

In principle, however, there are no legal regulations that do not allow arrest at the registry office.

If the asylum application is rejected, those affected can lodge a complaint within 14 days, informed the information platform

The Federal Administrative Court is then the final instance that decides on the asylum procedure.

Meanwhile, the number of deportations in Germany is increasing significantly.

This case also caused a stir: Rudolph Moshammer's murderer was deported.
