Exercise is particularly important for children and young people, because with school, computers and games consoles, there are a number of reasons that cause children to sit too much.

District – A worrying development for Christa Kinshofer.

The former ski racer and three-time Olympic medalist from Miesbach has been committed to getting young people moving for many years.

With a ski action day for children at the Christa Kinshofer ski center at Sonnenbichl in Bad Wiessee on Sunday.

January 28th and an open day on Friday, February 9th, she wants to promote regional winter sports and get children and young people excited about exercise in the snow.

Your involvement in this area is not new.

Christa Kinshofer has been supporting young skiers in the Tegernsee Valley for many years and is an ambassador for children and young people as part of the “Main thing is moving” campaign.

“My heartfelt goal is to get many children and young people excited about skiing and winter sports,” says the successful athlete, who won Olympic silver in the slalom in 1980, silver in the giant slalom and bronze in the slalom in 1988.

After the Corona-related break, it is even more important to create a place for sport and exercise in the everyday lives of young people.

Ski action day and open day

It starts with the ski action day for all children at Sonnenbichl.

Not only ski racers are invited, but all kids who like skiing.

The target group is primarily children from the Tegernsee schools, from ski courses and children of holiday guests.

“We offer a modern competition format in which the focus is on skiing and a day of sport in the fresh air,” explains Kinshofer, who can count on the support of the Tegernsee Ski Sports Association during the day of action.

Why exercise is important

The aim is to provide a foundation with this experience.

“The same applies to children of primary school age and teenagers: to improve strength and endurance, they should intensively use the large muscle groups two to three days a week,” says Kinshofer.

“Many forms of exercise are suitable for this, such as swimming, climbing, running, jumping or sports games.

It has been proven that the higher the muscular fitness achieved through exercise, the lower the various health risk factors.”

You can also improve bone health and self-esteem.

And for young people, targeted coordination and strength training can prevent sports injuries.

“The goal must be to get kids and youngsters away from the games console and into the snow – whether on skis, snowboards, cross-country skis, sleds or ice skating.”

Evening skiing at the open day

At the open day of the Christa Kinshofer Ski Center at Sonnenbichl on February 9th from 5 p.m., visitors can expect free evening skiing, a timed track, guided tours of the area and the test center with Sport Schlichtner.

The ski hut is also open on this day.
