The Ministry of Agriculture announced Friday that the State would reimburse breeders 80% of the costs of veterinary care linked to epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EMD) and that it would compensate them up to 80% in the event of death of the 'animal.
“In accordance with the commitments made by the Minister responsible for Agriculture, the State will reimburse 80% of the costs of veterinary care and will compensate up to 80% of dead animals for all outbreaks observed until December 31, 2023,” the ministry said in a press release, following a meeting with sector players.
The first files can be submitted in February
“Breeders will be able to submit their compensation files from the beginning of February,” it is specified in the press release.
The ministry also indicates that “professional solidarity will take over, with the support of the State, for outbreaks intervened from January 1, 2024 through the Health and Environmental Risk Mutualization Fund (FMSE)”, which “ will compensate veterinary costs and dead animals at the same rate.
In its press release, the ministry also recalls that “since the appearance of the first outbreaks, to relieve the cash flow of breeders impacted by MHE, PCR analyzes and veterinary costs for taking the sample in the event of clinical suspicion have been fully taken into account. borne by the State.
Prevention measures in half of the country
And "for (the) livestock farms which are experiencing cash flow difficulties, the common law mechanisms of partial exemption from TATFNB (additional tax to the tax on undeveloped land, Editor's note), at the hand of the prefects, or deferral of social charges by the MSA (Mutualité sociale agricole, Editor’s note), can intervene,” according to this press release.
The ministry also recalls that MHE, discovered at the end of September on French territory, “has experienced rapid expansion since 3,729 outbreaks are now recorded in 20 departments”.
“As a result, the control and prevention measures planned within a radius of 150 km around the outbreaks now apply to almost half of French territory,” he underlines.
As for the “mortality rate in contaminated farms”, it “is estimated at 1%”, specifies the ministry.
