– The 25-person delegation from the Miesbach district will be on their feet a lot at the Green Week in Berlin.
Unlike in the years before the corona pandemic, the region is no longer represented at a fixed stand in the Bayernhalle, but is on the move on a mobile mission.
“We will look at a lot, have conversations and hopefully take some good ideas home with us,” explains Harald Gmeiner, board member for tourism at the municipal company Regionalentwicklung Oberland (REO), the goals of the first visit to the world’s largest trade fair for the agricultural and food industry since 2020. The starting signal was given yesterday evening with a reception in the Bavarian state representation in Berlin with CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt.
No visit to the Miesbach district at all in 2023
As reported, the district decided not to travel to Berlin last year.
Given the costs, the uncertainties seemed too great given the still unclear further development of the Corona situation and the associated effects on visitor numbers.
These worries have now vanished into thin air.
The belief remains that you don't necessarily need your own trade fair stand in order to make contacts in Berlin.
The Miesbach district is not alone with this view.
The three other districts in planning region 17 Oberland (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Weilheim-Schongau), with whom Miesbach shared a joint stand in the Bayernhalle in 2020, also decided to forego the role of exhibitor this year.

According to Gmeiner, the delegation from the Oberland includes a total of 55 people.
Among the travelers are the district administrators and some mayors as well as representatives of economic and tourism development.
These focal points are also reflected in the visit program.
As Gmeiner reports, after the politically influenced start on Thursday evening, the tour of the trade fair on Friday will be about the exchange of content.
Numerous visits to producers and marketers of regional products as well as agricultural tourism providers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol are on the Oberlandlers' agenda.
The question of how agriculture can play an even greater role in the energy transition will also shape the discussions.
Impact of farmers' protests questionable
Gmeiner was unable to estimate before his departure by train on Thursday how much the visit to the trade fair and the Green Week as a whole will be marked and perhaps even overshadowed by the current farmers' protests.
However, the latest developments show how important it is to talk about the future of regional agriculture.
The REO board emphasizes that he is all the more pleased by the great interest in participating in the delegation, which was already apparent during the initial planning last summer.

This also applies to Green Week as a whole.
1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries will inform visitors (last year there were 400,000) about the main topics of sustainability, food security and the future of agribusiness, according to the trade fair homepage.
According to the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, there are more than 80 Bavarian exhibitors, with the focus this year being on the mountain pastures and Alps.
Around 50 music and traditional costume groups with around 1,200 participants also perform in the large beer garden in the Bayernhalle.
Here, too, the Oberlandler delegation will definitely meet one or two familiar faces from home - just like at the Tegernseer Land natural cheese dairy and the Obermooser organic farm from Irschenberg, which are represented at a joint stand and thus represent the Miesbach district on the exhibitor side.
