A feminicide was probably avoided on the island of Oléron (Charente-Maritime) on January 15.
The La Rochelle public prosecutor has just opened a judicial investigation into attempted murder by a former spouse against a man from Brittany.
This individual was arrested last Monday by the gendarmes in Saint-Denis-d'Oléron, near the company where his ex-partner, victim of domestic violence in November 2023, now works, specifies Arnaud Laraize, the public prosecutor from La Rochelle.
This man, whose age was not specified, was carrying a loaded 6.35 mm handgun.
Three days earlier, his ex-partner had fortunately informed her employer of his possible presence on the island of Oléron.
On January 12, the man even showed up “at his workplace” after finding “his trace”.

On Monday, the employer was able to recognize this Breton thanks to images captured by his company's video surveillance and immediately raised the alarm.
The gendarmes undertook several patrols before arresting the violent ex-partner behind the wheel of a vehicle registered in Finistère.
Already placed in police custody and then under strict judicial supervision, the latter was strictly prohibited from entering into contact with the victim while awaiting his judgment.
To the Charente-Maritime gendarmes, this man spontaneously declared that he was in possession of a loaded weapon before explaining that he had “the intention of shooting his ex-partner in the head and get away with one later in the pharmacy.”
He has since been placed in pre-trial detention by the liberty and detention judge.
The La Rochelle public prosecutor praised the good reflexes of the ex-wife's employer and “the professionalism of the soldiers of the Oléron gendarmerie”.
