Protective strips on Münchner Straße are intended to offer cyclists more safety in Höhenkirchen.

A big step in the comprehensive transport concept.

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn

– Cyclists should feel safer in the future when they ride on Münchner Straße in Höhenkirchen Siegertsbrunn.

That's why, after the building committee, the local council also gave the green light to implement the measures already decided on in the overall concept for cycling and walking this year.

Dorothee Stoewahse (Greens) already spoke of a “milestone” in the building committee.

The route begins just before Hirschwinkelstrasse and leads to the mini roundabout

Protective strips for cyclists are to be installed on both sides of a larger section of Münchner Straße.

The route begins just before Hirschwinkelstrasse and leads to the mini roundabout at Friedenseiche.

From the entrance to the town until just before Hirschwinkelstraße, cyclists can use the shared footpath and cycle path on the north side of Münchner Straße.

Then the footpath and cycle path ends, so cyclists have to merge quite abruptly onto the Münchner Straße road.

The new transition from the shared footpath and cycle path to the protective strip should also be made safer through renovations.

In addition, a set-up area next to the central island in front of the intersection with Brunnhofstrasse should be marked and thus ensure a more optimal transfer of cyclists to the shared footpath and cycle path on the south side.

Cost estimate is around 330,000 euros

However, the measures come at a price.

An initial cost estimate is around 330,000 euros.

Even though funding was applied for and the community can expect funds of up to 120,000 euros, many members of the local council had to swallow.

“Is there anything else that can be saved?” Rupert Franke (SPD) wanted to know in the building committee.

Only if the work is not carried out in accordance with the legal requirements, answered the responsible municipal employee Andreas Siegel.

“Then the funding will no longer be available,” said Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD).

Police welcome the measure

“We should definitely take the money into our hands,” said Manfred Eberhard (UB), who has cycled the route several times and knows about the uncertainty there.

His parliamentary group colleague Otto Bußjäger also spoke out in favor of the package of measures.

But you have to explain to citizens what their tax money is being used for.

We from the working group have been on this for years.”
