The Minister of Economic Affairs forwarded his annual economic report to his colleagues in the Cabinet for a vote this week.
Older people should be motivated to work longer.
Berlin – Once a year the Minister of Economic Affairs presents the annual economic report.
In it, the minister can make suggestions about what he believes needs to change in the coming year so that the economy does well.
Robert Habeck (Greens) has completed his current draft and submitted it to the departmental vote.
A key focus of this year's report is increasing employment, across all demographic groups.
Habeck wants to reward work in old age
The Handelsblatt
first reported on the draft of the annual economic report
.
It says that Habeck wants to motivate more older people to work even after they reach retirement age.
The Minister of Economics is planning to create incentives for employees of retirement age in the future instead of letting them take early retirement without deductions.
“The knowledge and skills of older employees are worth their weight in gold – for companies and for the economy,” Habeck said, according to the report.
For this reason, among other things, he proposes that the employer's share of unemployment and pension insurance be paid directly to employees after they reach the normal retirement age.
So: Anyone who is still working at retirement age receives a kind of bonus from their employer - but this does not mean any additional costs for the company.

The deduction-free pension before the regular retirement age is a popular retirement option.
In addition, the number of people considering earlier retirement has been at a high level for years.
And the fact that only a minority of the baby boomer generation can imagine working until normal retirement is likely to further fuel the departure of many older workers.
CDU proposes active pension
Habeck is not alone with his suggestions.
The CDU has also made a very similar proposal in its new policy program, the so-called “active pension”.
It says that anyone who reaches statutory retirement age and continues to work should be able to earn up to 2,000 euros per month tax-free.
Here too, the aim is for seniors to continue working for as long as possible.
