Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow fears a wave of strikes at the railways.

He sees Deutsche Bahn as responsible for this.

Berlin - In the deadlocked collective bargaining dispute between the railway and the train drivers' union GDL, Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left) clearly criticized the company.

Ramelow told the newspapers of the editorial network Germany (RND)

on Wednesday (January 17)

that he expects a “massive wave of strikes” and even an “indefinite strike” if the railway does not change course .

The GDL is almost “forced” to do this because the railway board is obviously “not capable of learning”.

Collective bargaining talks between Deutsche Bahn and GDL are on hold

The collective bargaining negotiations are currently on hold; the union only backed up its demands with a three-day strike last week.

The core concerns include a reduction in working hours to 35 hours per week with full wage compensation for employees in shift work - the railway wants to talk about this, but not about full wage compensation.

The GDL is currently waiting for a new offer from Deutsche Bahn.

As the collective bargaining dispute progresses, GDL boss Claus Weselsky announced that he would continue to increase the pressure.

“Do not get on” is written on a Deutsche Bahn train at the main station.

“In principle, it will be longer and harder – that is the message,” he said, also with regard to the next possible GDL rail strike in the not too distant future.

“I don’t think I’m taking much time.” Weselsky’s statements towards Bahn show how deadlocked the negotiations are at the moment and the fronts could possibly harden even further.

Ultimately, the GDL can tighten the screws even further and intensify the industrial dispute again.

Bahn continues to sue union - Ramelow criticizes “legal hair-splitting”

In addition, the railway is questioning the union's ability to collectively bargain because of the temporary employment agency Fair Train founded by the GDL.

For clarification, the railway filed a declaratory judgment with the Hessian State Labor Court.

Ramelow told the

that the railway was now “splitting legal hairs” through human resources director Martin Seiler.

“This increases the anger of the train drivers even more and leaves me stunned.” He warned against attempts to “destroy” the GDL.

The union had become stronger after each of the previous conflicts.

Instead, the railway should “sit down at the table with the union with a negotiable offer”.
