Many fans believe that Heinz Hoenig, at the age of 72, will have a difficult time in the jungle camp.

This is what the “I’m a star – get me out of here!” participant says.

Update from January 7, 2024:

Cologne - Heinz Hoenig (72) was announced as the first jungle camp candidate in 2024, but had to listen to some nasty comments straight away.

The reason: Many fans don't trust the actor to be able to survive in the camp at the age of 72.

The background for this assumption probably lies in the history of the RTL broadcast.

Some challenges present the stars with major physical challenges, which is why in the past some participants had to miss out due to previous illnesses.

The viewers were not allowed to nominate them for any disgust test in the jungle.

But Heinz Hoenig is convinced that he is exactly the right person for the TV adventure.

In an interview with

RTL

he reacts to the criticism.

“There are so many things that make you so sensitive.

You can be 110 years old there.

“It doesn’t matter at all,” he emphasizes.

But he isn't sensitive at all.

However, he can of course only see on site what he can pull off and what not.

“The truth is what happens.

“You can say whatever you want beforehand,” he says – and apparently asks the audience to just wait and see how he will do down under.

What is clear to the TV star is that he is not fooling himself and knows what he is capable of: “I would love to not deceive myself.

I don’t even need that.”

First report from December 6, 2023:

Cologne - Heinz Hoenig has played a number of roles over the course of his impressive acting career and was in successful films such as Wolfgang Petersen's († 81) cult classic "Das Boot" (1981) or the Dieter Wedel multi-part film " “The Great Bellheim” (1992) and “The King of St. Pauli” (1998).

Now the film and stage favorite is breaking new ground: in 2024 he will take part in the jungle camp - but is that even right?

Heinz Hoenig is ready for the jungle camp – RTL viewers have their doubts

Heinz Hoenig only had scant information about “I’m a star – get me out of here!”, as he admits in the RTL interview: “I don’t know what’s coming, who’s taking part and what’s actually going on.” That He had just “seen the jungle camp for a few minutes” – nothing more!

Nevertheless, the actor wants to prove himself in the Australian bush: “I was up for it this year.

I just want to experience that.

I’m free to do it now.”

But the 72-year-old's euphoria doesn't really spread to all RTL viewers.

Shortly after the first jungle camp candidate was announced, they complained about the commitment on Instagram - the reason: They don't have much confidence in the actor given his age.

“Someone like that won’t be allowed to take part in a test again in the end” or “Another person who has to leave the camp after three days for medical reasons,” were the predictions of some disappointed fans.

Heinz Hoenig will be in the jungle camp in 2024 – in addition to criticism, there is also a lot of praise

In fact, quite a few Instagram users doubt Heinz Hoenig's suitability for the jungle camp: “Another older person who will then be excluded from the exams.

That’s not fair!” complains an RTL viewer.

However, some people jump to the film and theater actor's side: “The young people here who are below the belt presuming to insult someone who is over 70 years old... [That] is so shameful!

We’re all supposed to work until we’re 70 and you ignorant people are attacking this man?”
