So far, Russia has deployed more long-range drones than Ukraine.

But Ukrainian tinkerers have developed something that can hit an important Russian city.

The overview.

Kiev - According to Kiev military information, Russian ground troops are again intensifying their attacks on the fronts in the east and south of Ukraine.

According to the situation report from the Ukrainian General Staff, there were 114 attempted attacks on eight sectors of the front on Thursday - significantly more than last time.

According to this information, the attacks were repelled.

However, this could not be independently verified.

The Russian military claimed to have captured a village in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

The sky over Ukraine initially remained calm during the night.

The Ukrainian Air Force did not record any of the usual attacks by Russian combat drones.

Ukraine announced that its own newly developed drone had reached the port of the northern Russian metropolis of St. Petersburg the night before.

Ukraine has been fending off a full-scale Russian invasion for nearly 23 months;

Friday marks the 695th day of the war.

The attacked country is supported by the West in defending itself against the Russian attackers.

However, further military aid from the USA, the most important supporter, remains in limbo.

In the dispute over the federal budget that has been going on for months, the US Congress voted on Thursday for an interim solution, but this excludes the aid for Ukraine requested by the government.

Intense ground fighting in Ukraine

The fighting on the ground increased in intensity again, as the Ukrainian General Staff report shows.

The Russian troops ran most violently against the front-line town of Avdiivka.

36 battles were recorded in and around the city close to Russian-controlled Donetsk.

The Russian army has been trying to encircle the Ukrainian defenders since October.

She suffered high losses of soldiers and material.

Further north, the Russian military said it occupied the village of Vezyoloye in the Donetsk region.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow said the place was under control.

The Ukrainian General Staff report did not provide any information about this.

Heavy fighting was also reported from the Kupyansk, Lyman, Mariinka sectors of the front and from the Ukrainian bridgehead on the southern bank of the Dnipro.

In addition, many villages and towns near the front were under Russian artillery fire, as the General Staff announced.

Artillery and cruise missiles from France

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said he thanked French head of state Emmanuel Macron in a phone call for promised arms support.

In addition to the Caesar howitzers, Ukraine is to receive around 40 more Scalp cruise missiles and hundreds of A2SM air-to-surface missiles from France, as Defense Minister Sébastian Lecornu announced in Paris.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umjerov said that strengthening artillery was a key point in deciding the war for Ukraine.

There is a lack of ammunition.

Ukrainian drone flies to St. Petersburg

Ukraine says it successfully used a drone in the northern Russian city of St. Petersburg.

“Yes, this night we hit a target, and this drone flew exactly 1,250 kilometers,” Industry Minister Olexander Kamyshin said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The drone used was produced in Ukraine and cost the equivalent of just over 320 euros.

Ukrainian media, citing military intelligence, reported an attack on a fuel depot in the port of the city with over a million inhabitants.

According to Russian information, three drones were intercepted.

There was no damage.

Foreign Minister expects F-16 in Ukraine soon

According to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine's preparations for the deployment of US F-16 fighter jets are going according to plan.

“The pilots are preparing.

The engineers are preparing.

The infrastructure is being prepared,” Kuleba said on television.

All countries that wanted to provide Ukraine with jets would fulfill their obligations.

“I think that this year we will achieve the first F-16 aerial victories in Ukraine,” the minister said.

His country's priority this year is to gain air superiority over Russia.

So far, Ukraine lacks aircraft to fight Russian jets.

The Netherlands and Denmark want to sell dozens of F-16 fighter jets.

Ukrainian economy grew

According to Zelensky, Ukraine's economy grew by five percent last year compared to 2022 despite the Russian invasion. Tax revenues also increased to the same extent, the head of state said in his video speech.

The European Union had also expected Ukrainian economic growth of around five percent.

It is a rebound effect after Ukraine's economy shrank by almost 30 percent in 2022 in the first year of the war.

Pistorius does not rule out Russian attack on NATO

Defense Minister Pistorius warned against an expansion of the war in Ukraine.

“We hear threats from the Kremlin almost every day - most recently against our friends in the Baltics,” the SPD politician told the “Tagesspiegel”.

“So we have to take into account that Vladimir Putin will one day even attack a NATO country.” He currently doesn’t think a Russian attack is likely.

“Our experts expect a period of five to eight years in which this could be possible.” He wanted to “wake up our society” with his warning or his demand that the Bundeswehr must become “war-ready”.

Precautions must now be taken for this.

Pistorius had already discussed a modified conscription, for which he expects proposals from his ministry by April.

US General Christopher Cavoli had announced a major maneuver with around 90,000 soldiers to deter Russia from February.

The exercise, which will last around four months, is said to be the defense alliance's largest in decades.
