Highlights: Despite low response: Kreuth doesn't want to simply let the local heating project die. Only four of the 32 homeowners around Hammerschmiedstrasse, In der Traten and Carl-Miller-Weg expressed interest in connecting to the showcase project. The longer the lines have to be out, the higher the development costs will be - and the less economically viable the connection will be. “We don’t have an information deficit here, but rather an understanding deficit,” said Markus Wrba, who had already “peddled” the ground-mounted PV system in his neighborhood.

The Kreuth community wants to implement a local heating project.

However, the initial response from the population was sobering.

Nevertheless, they don't want to let the project die yet.

Kreuth

– The response from the people of Oberhof to the innovative and sustainable local heating project with photovoltaics and geothermal energy right on their doorstep was sobering and disappointing.

As Mayor Josef Bierschneider (CSU) now reported to the local council, in response to the community's request, only four of the 32 homeowners around Hammerschmiedstrasse, In der Traten and Carl-Miller-Weg expressed interest in connecting to the showcase project.

Local heating project: Mayor surprised by lack of interest

“The response was very, very low,” said Bierschneider.

He was very surprised at the lack of interest.

Although there were six more completed questionnaires from residents who have a direct connection to the area, the longer the lines have to be out, the higher the development costs will be - and the less economically viable the connection to the local heating project will be.

That's why Bierschneider suggested repealing the September decision on the first change to development plan No. 37 - and thus writing off the project.

FWG local council wants to save Kreuther's flagship project

But the majority of local councilors didn’t want that.

Above all, it was Markus Wrba (FWG), who had already “peddled” the ground-mounted PV system in his neighborhood in the fall.

During the first round, he was surprised by the ignorance of his fellow citizens and sometimes the “enormous sobriety” about the energy transition.

Not only was the sense of the project not always immediately recognized, reported Wrba, who had also been involved in the Tegernsee Valley Energy and Climate Protection working group for a long time.

Often he couldn't even get in touch with the homeowners or homeowners' associations.

Or there might have been technical problems within the houses.

Wrba already had good feedback from its second round of advertising.

This is also why he asked the committee to give the project another chance.

He offered to address his fellow citizens of Oberhof again using an explanatory video to explain the project, its ecological aspects and the energy transition.

“We don’t have an information deficit here, but rather an understanding deficit,” Wrba was certain.

Only ten percent positive feedback for the Kreuther system

Matthias Erhardt (Greens) stood by him and praised his initiative - provided that the E-Werk also agreed to it.

Martin Walch (SPD) made it clear: “We don’t need declarations of intent, but rather a concrete number of residents who are taking part.” 60 percent are required for the realization of such projects.

In Kreuth there was only ten percent positive feedback.

Bierschneider doubted that this would change in another attempt.

But he doesn't want to close himself off.

Local heating project: “We shouldn’t throw in the towel”

Robert Gerg (SPD) suggested asking larger and commercial customers further away, such as the medical center and the Hotel Bachmair Weissach, whether they would like to join.

Peter Stiepan (CSU) wanted to check whether it was technically feasible to run the lines under the stream and to attract residents on Sandweg and Hessenbichlweg.

“Every beginning is difficult.

We shouldn’t throw in the towel,” demanded Michael Unger (FWG)

Because an opportunity like this for a project like this with such an “extraordinary partner,” as Wrba described the E-Werk, won’t come back any time soon.

And especially not if it doesn't work the first time.

The decision to cancel the development plan change was initially suspended.

People want to wait for the results of Wrba's initiative and hope for resounding success.
