Despite fears for her health, the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II apparently came as more of a surprise than previously thought.

London – Previously kept secret findings have been published in a new book.

The last moments of Queen Elizabeth (96, † 2022) were recorded in a note by her devoted private secretary, Sir Edward Young (57).

He was also present at Balmoral Castle on the day of the death.

The book reports that King Charles III.

(75) was in the mushrooms when his mother passed away from the world.

Charles III

tried to clear his head and went into the woods with a basket

According to the book “Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story” by Robert Hardman, from which the

quotes, Queen Elizabeth fell asleep “very peacefully”.

“She wouldn’t have known anything.

No pain,” writes the author who came across Young’s memoirs.

It was kept as a historical document in the royal archives and has not previously been published.

The biography also reveals how shortly after Sir Edward penned his note, a servant brought the Queen's locked red box containing her most important documents.

The box contained, among other things, two sealed letters.

One to her son and heir, the current King Charles III, and the other to Sir Edward himself.

Both will probably never be published.

King Charles was on his way back to Balmoral when he received the call

Hardman's biography states that despite great fears in retrospect, the Queen's health deteriorated so quickly that Charles had to fly to Balmoral by helicopter, carrying his "London Bridge down" notes (the long-agreed plan of action according to the Death of the Regent) read.

The staff didn't even have time to prepare their car.

The records also say the King and Queen Camilla, 76, had a private hour with Her Majesty before she died.

Charles, wanting to clear his head, needed some fresh air and decided to head for the surrounding woods, where he set off with a picking basket on his arm.

There he received the news of his mother, who had suddenly disappeared from the world, on the way in search of mushrooms - he had assumed that they would still live for days - whereupon he immediately drove back to Balmoral.
