Each has its own identity and very particular traditions.
And the most anticipated of the entire Spanish archipelago has just started: the 2024 edition of the Tenerife Carnival began on January 12 and will end on February 18.
You therefore have one month left to enjoy the event combined with the Rio Carnival.

The whole archipelago celebrating
Elected “Carnival Capital of the World” in 2000, Tenerife offers colorful festivities.
These are launched by the election of the Queen of the festivities during a dedicated gala.
And the challenge is significant for the title hopefuls: the impressive costumes they wear to parade weigh several hundred kilos – more than 400 for some!
Once the Queen is chosen, processions punctuated by songs and dances are launched for several days.
Another notable episode: the funeral of the sardine, called “Coso” – the fish symbolizing the spirit of the festivities.

With an average annual temperature around 25°C, Tenerife is the ideal destination.
And its carnival, the second most popular in the world, has a different theme every year.
