It was not the 96,000 euros received thanks to the Heritage Loto which made it possible to save the Roman aqueduct of Gier, the most interesting part of which in terms of heritage is located in Chaponost, near Lyon.
But the event organized in 2019 for its first edition by the Ministry of Culture and TV host Stéphane Bern, made it possible to shine the spotlight on this endangered monument and make it known to the whole of France.

A boon for local elected officials wishing to rehabilitate the 86 km long structure, 85% buried, which crosses 21 municipalities between Loire and Rhône: from Saint-Chamond to Lyon.
Considered one of the greatest Roman hydraulic achievements, the Roman aqueduct is believed to have been completed in the mid-1st century AD.
